Loans and consultations
Requests to borrow or consult books and/or publications need to be submitted directly through the UCSC OPAC, also using the pc points located in the room of the Central Circulation Desk, in the hall of the Central Library and in the Milan campus branch libraries.
For proceeding the loan request, you must authenticate by entering the institutional login (more info: How to authenticate for Library services).
The Library loaning service does not apply to:
- books held in the 'Giuseppe Billanovich Reference Room' and the institutes
- journals
- publications dated before 1950, rare and prestigious works, in folio volumes, national editions of the classics
- books in special funds and special libraries
- UCSC theses and dissertations
Any person who fails to return a book borrowed or taken for daily consultation, or who returns it damaged, will be liable for its replacement with another intact edition. Should that not be possible, the responsible party will be obliged to reimburse the Library the current price of the work or works in question.
Books picking-up
Normally, volumes can be picked-up about 20 minutes after the request has been sent. The time and place of pick-up will be specified in the e-mail which the Library will send to the applicant's institutional address (@icatt.it or @unicatt.it) confirming that pick-up is possible.
The status of your request can be checked at any time on your personal My Library page.
The loan is personal, however, the pick-up of volumes can be delegated to a person other than the applicant. The person delegated to collect the books must
- present a valid identity document with photograph
- present the delegating person's university ID (or the document of admission to the Library services)
- submit the form "Authorisation for withdrawal of items on loan" (downloadable from the page Modulistica), filled in and signed by the delegator.
Books returning
The user is required to return the volumes received:
- within 30 days, in the case of books available for monthly loan
- within 7 days for books available on short loan
- on the same day, before the closing time of the Library, if the books are available for consultation only
The expiration dates of current loans can be checked at any time in your personal My Library page.
You can also get a 15-day extension of the loan for the volumes already borrowed, if they have not already been submitted to the Library reservations by other users. The extension must be requested within 5 days prior to the expiration of the loan already active, through My Library, via e-mail or by telephone.
The return of volumes can also be carried out by another delegated person.
Delay in returning any volume will result in suspension of services.
Multimedia materials on DVD are also available for loan (except for the works produced in the last two years), as follows:
- for students = 1 day (between Monday and Friday) or 4 days (from Friday until Monday)
- for teachers = up to 1 week
